Adult day care can be not only a useful tool but even a lifesaver for many caregivers. You should, however, scrutinze this as much as any other senior service.

When I was considering taking my Father to an Adult Day Care facility, I went there and just sat and watched for over an hour. I was able to not only talk to the staff but watch how the seniors felt about being there. it's a great practice that gives you a lot of valuable insight into the quality of care your loved one would be receiving.

Hi Derrick, Greatt addition to the ElderCareABC Blog Carnival. Adult Day Care is a great option to give senior home care givers a bit of a break to rest, relax, or maybe spend some quality time with grandkids. Thanks for the great info to help in the decision of when and how to utilize it. :)

As Adult Day Care continues to gain national attention across the nation, my great state of WV continues to refuse to believe that this option of senior care needs to be promoted as well as supported.
As the owner of an adult day care since 2005 I have not seen any govt. bureaucrat support adult day care , but have seen the state create in home care programs that can only be performed by State and Federally funded senior centers. Of course, since the state did not want to pursue the Money Follows the Person Act and continues to defy the Olmstead Act (we still have no Olmstead Plan) I can only assume that the Nursing home, and senior centers in WV will continue to thrive with the money from the state and federal govt. Heck, the state has just recently put a hold on all new applicants under the ONE AND ONLY waiver for the elderly and disabled. Despite the overall evidence that Adult Day Care is a wonderful, cost effective, and great alternative long term care placement or limited hourly help within the home, WV continues to support only what I can see they have vested interests in, whether monetarily or maybe the lobbyists help to keep the senior care options in the state at a minimum. I smell at rat, a really big rat.
